Practical Magic for Entrepreneurs
Like you, my career is built on years of 16-hour days and nights up with a feverish kiddo. Burning eyes and burning shoulders. The naysaying whispers in my head telling me I’ll never “make it”; bad luck and bad debt. Way too many online courses resulting in just more busywork. Making enough money to thrive, while building a life of meaning—that’s my aspiration. Just like I’m sure it’s yours.
Starting at 13, I’ve founded 7 businesses. Most of them have been failures. I hired friends, paid them more than I made, and realized (too late) they were stealing clients, along with my soul. I’ve been turned down for a $5k business loan; been rejected dozens of times by banks, financial nonprofits, private firms, and even those sharky online lenders. And felt the blood drain from my heart when my investor tried to kick me out of my own company, blaming me for his failures.
Entrepreneurship is hard. Solo-preneurship is even harder.
24 years and a lot of hard lessons after my first entrepreneurial action, I’m now the CEO and majority shareholder of an international coffee importing company that’s changing how coffee is traded. Against all predictions, I closed a $1.8m leveraged buyout of the investor who tried to evict me. Talented humans in 3 countries call me boss.
Through Arise Mighty, I’m codifying and sharing the lessons I’ve learned with other hardworking women and minorities in business. Especially the stuff like hiring and financing that are complex to understand, tend to be shut behind the shiny mahogany doors where the white dudes are, and require specialized systems or vocabulary.
Arise Mighty has two systems in beta mode right now.
Fearless Financing helps small and medium-sized business owners access commercial finance, while building a program to educate financial decision-makers on how to work with women and minorities. Need money for your business? Click through and check it out!
